Feingold Introduces Bill To 'Effectively End Military Involvement In Iraq'

by S-Q @ 1:04 PM MDT

Raw Story

In a countermove designed to counter President Bush's expected veto of an emergency supplemental spending bill containing a timetable for US troop withdrawal, Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) is introducing legislation which would "effectively end military involvement in Iraq."

According to a press release sent to RAW STORY, Feingold's bill "requires the President to begin safely redeploying U.S. troops from Iraq 120 days from enactment, as required by the emergency supplemental spending bill passed by the Senate." It would also end "funding for the war, with three narrow exceptions, effective March 31, 2008." The exceptions include operations against Qaeda and other terrorist groups, training Iraqi security forces, and funds related to security for United States infrastructure and personnel.

The bill is cosponsored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), along with Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chris Dodd (D-CT), Ted Kennedy (D-MA), John Kerry (D-MA), Pat Leahy (D-VT), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). The press release notes, "If the President vetoes the emergency supplemental spending bill, Reid has said he will work to ensure Feingold’s bill gets a vote in the Senate before Memorial Day."

Hiya S-Q. I like Feingold's bill, but how do you see it getting cloture to come to the floor?

Good for Feingold. The rest of the bozos best not leave him hanging this time.

I'm deleted the history on that one link, so my brain has to remember how I got to there, S.Q. (don't hold your breath) lol

Teak,

Well the Democrats have a spine now but they still need practice on how to use it!

Compared to the Jellyfish 109th Congress though this Congress is almost acting Constitutional again!

Time will tell!

Should we remind them again that they are a Co-Equal Branch ?

They forget sometimes when they hear gerbil crying about our troops again!

If Bush cared about our Troops we wouldn't be in Iraq any more and Walter Reed would be better equipped than a 5 star hotel.

Does anyone understand how DUMB Bush sounds...

Oh we have to fund the troops...

Maybe I need clarification on this but am I not correct in assuming that if we pull the troops that they no longer need WAR funding ?

If they're coming home then why are we arming them ?

Is the Insurgency here in the US ?

I don't get that logic!

To me if they're getting pulled no more money should be needed...

Only perhaps in a support role but that's less money right there..

Bush is doing his doublespeak again!

Bush doesn't give a rats a$$ about our troops!

Compassion should be the first feeling one gets if on cares about human beings. They're sacrificing their lives over and over again in multiple tours of duty!

When Bush gives me more body armor that doesn't mean he cares about me, that means he wants me well protected so I can continue his failed policy.

If body armor is so good then why do US Soldiers come back with missing limbs...

Care about me ? HOW ???
End this war, that's caring!

The Bush doublespeak is full bullsh@t.

GEF:

Yes, you hit the nail on the head with that! Our troops aren't treated good. Remember the stories about the contaminated drinking water and sloppy food? Ugh!

Exactly GEF, the Congress seems to be growing a spine and they are winning me over and i'm much more hopeful............but they still appear afraid of a showdown with the Idiot "DECIDER" they need to attack this enemy of the Constition and Foe of Freedom at every opportunity Bush NEEDS to be impeached he is a treasonous war criminal and a fascist.
