Bush's administrations claim to fame is it's "lies"

by Geezer Power 6:43:00 PM

Bush campaigned for the presidency as the fellow who would bring honesty back to the White House. During his first full day on the job, while swearing in his White House staff, he reminded his cadre, "On a mantelpiece in this great house is inscribed the prayer of John Adams, that only the wise and honest may rule under this roof." But Adams's prayer would once more go unanswered. There has been no restoration of integrity. Bush's promise was a lie. The future of the United States remains in the hands of a dishonest man.

The Other Lies of George Bush

The true damage might not be revealed for years.

The right wing of this county hates government, they all admit it. From Ronald Reagan forward they have worked tirelessly to dismantle parts of it and private other parts. Reagan attacked Unions from the start destroying the Air Traffic Control Union at the beginning of his administration. He underfunded social programs for medical services for the poor, legal services for the poor, and housing for the poor. At the very same time he gave the oil corporations a windfall to search the US or OIL which those corporation knew did not exist with in our shores. He set the defense industries up with enormous contracts to build weapons systems which just a few years later he would scrap, throwing good money after bad for the enrichment of a few. He claimed not to know when sections of his administration broke the law, even going so far as to lie to congress. George H W Bush continues Reagan’s unbalanced federal budget policies which borrowed large sums of money with no plan to ever pay for it.

Grover Norquist, who ran a supposed grass roots anti tax group has made a very famous statement, that he would like to starve the federal government till he could drowned it in a bathtub. He has had the ears of both George W Bush and the republicans who ran congress from 1994 till their loss in 2006. During this time they under cut the ability of the federal government to preform it’s job making sure the rights of people were protected especially the most vulnerable. The undercut the ability of workers to challenge corporations about safety issues and labor issues They used the ever rising federal debt as a weapon to deny needed programs for the poor or middle class unless they were crafted to enrich corporate America, like the Medicare Part D program does in spades.. Or the no child left behind program which the president’s own brother takes advantage of in Texas and Florida selling a imperfect computer based system designed to meet the needs established by NCLB

When George w Bush was appointed President in 2000 against the will of the majority of the voting public, the writing was on the wall. But unless you knew the intricacies of the right wing spin machine, which had sloganeered their agenda, you would think they were just after the dead wood of our society. They used right wing radio, Fox news and other rightist talking heads to quash opposition to their dismantling of the very programs upon which the majority of American are forced to rely from time to time. In fact they were after the social safety net, and the labor protections which the middle class relied on. They severely cut back on aid to dependent children, and food stamp programs which help feed the poorest of the poor among us. They made it harder to qualify, and set time limits and extra paper work for people just to qualify.

They were after the civil rights division of the Justice department.

One of Ashcroft's most profound changes was to the Civil Rights Division, started in 1957 to fight racial discrimination in voting. Under Ashcroft, career lawyers were systematically fired or forced out and replaced by members of conservative or Christian groups or folks with no civil rights experience. In the five years after 2001, the Civil Rights Division brought no voting cases -- and only one employment case -- on behalf of an African American. Instead, the division took up the "civil rights" abuses of reverse discrimination -- claims of voter fraud or discrimination against Christians. On Feb. 20, Gonzales announced a new initiative called the First Freedom Project to carry out "even greater enforcement of religious rights for all Americans." In his view, the fight for a student's right to read a Bible in school is as urgent as the right to vote.

They were after mine safety;

In 2002, Bush named former Massey Energy official Stanley Suboleski to the MSHA review commission that decides all legal matters under the Federal Mine Act. Massey Energy is one of the largest coal companies in the U.S and has been cited for numerous violations. And David Lauriski, the former head of MSHA, spent 30 years as an executive in the mining industry before being tapped to head the agency. He resigned last year to work for a mine-industry consulting company. The current head of MSHA, Richard Stickler, was appointed by Bush last September. Stickler is a former manager of Beth Energy mines. The Bush administration has also cut 170 positions from MSHA.

They wanted to end the EPA’s ability to hold corporate America responsible for their pollution of our air water and lands.

It scarcely raises an eyebrow nowadays when the Bush administration's environmental record is characterized, yet again, as a relentless attack on decades of protections for air, water, and wildlife. But the latest such charges come from a loyal soldier of the GOP, appointed by the Bushies to head up the enforcement office of the U.S. EPA, so they carry more weight than most.

Bush officials waged "an unforgiving assault" on the EPA's enforcement program, J. P. Suarez was quoted as saying in the October issue of The Environmental Law Reporter, in an article by Joel Mintz entitled "'Treading Water': A Preliminary Assessment of EPA Enforcement During the Bush II Administration". Suarez served as EPA's enforcement chief from July 2002 until his resignation in January of this year, during which time he bore the brunt of the fierce internal battle at EPA over changes to new-source review (NSR) regulations under the Clean Air Act. He left after carrying out the notorious decision by the Bush administration to yank lawsuits against dozens of coal-burning utilities for dirty-air infringements that had been in the pipeline for prosecution since the Clinton era.

They were after the Federal Government ability to rein in the wall street schemes which enrich the Bankers and fund managers all the while selling junk stocks as the latest greatest investments.

Ignoring Enron's Lessons, Bush Rollbacks Continue:

Virtually everyone now agrees that a permissive regulatory environment aided the recent wave of corporate accounting scandals. There were insufficient protections to ensure independent, objective accounting, and little in the way of government oversight, with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) woefully underfunded and understaffed. This invited widespread claims of phantom profits, cheating shareholders out of billions.

Unfortunately, these same permissive conditions exist in other areas of corporate governance as well, particularly protection of public health, safety, and the environment. Yet in these areas, the Bush administration has continued to exacerbate the problem, stifling new protections, rolling back regulation already on the books, and gutting enforcement. With no cop on the beat, corporate abuses are bound to increase.

They were after the rights of veterans to receive just medical treatment and compensation for the wounds of combat and their service to this country.

Walter Reed scandal, under funding of the Veterans Administration to the point where a emergency funding bill was necessary, and the fact the military is allowed to dent benefits using disreputable pre-existing condition rules which are laughable on their face, however the military doctors are protected from malpractice suits by federal law.

And the already famous failure to truly fund the needs of the troops as they are sent into a combat situation time after time. No body armor, no up armor for their vehicles, not enough troops to secure the country and prevent the fiasco we now have.

Bush ET Al have about broken the US army and the US Marine Corps are not far behind.

They have almost destroyed the US justice department;

A former career official there told The Washington Post that Goodling "forced many very talented career people out of main Justice so she could replace them with junior people that were either loyal to the administration or would score her some points."

And of course the US attorney firings for political purposes.

The republicans have dismantled and underfunded so much that the federal over site no longer exists in many areas, and by installing politically motivated unqualified individuals like Brownie and Monica Goodling they have destroyed the ability of large sections of the federal government to recover.

The republican party has railed against the government and now that they have held the reins of power for far too long they have destroyed or in placed people who want to totally negate it’s constitutional purpose for the benefit of the corporate interests.

They were after the heart and soul of this country and just might have wounded it. The next administration will spend a large amount of it’s time in office just trying to undo the damage of that is at all possible.

There is a lot of truth here...

This unprecedented administration has been so busy spreading disharmony in so many places and for so long that the vibrations will continue throughout this planet untill they can be changed back into real music. As more deeds are uncovered they are busy doing deciet and destruction in other places, in a way that can be called nothing but evil.

Yes the last year has been a hell of a ride in the bloggosphere, and November 7th was priceless, and worth all the time.

The trolls at Lydia's place haven't been the same since and those at Kayinmaines place are even more hateful which means even they know it's about over for the far right.

The Bush administration is just trying to finish what the Reagan administration started, but Ronnie didn't have the rubber stamp congress Bush did.

Other wise Ronnie would have done much more damage all by himself.

Think this attack in southern Iraq might set the neo-con plans back a bit?

From Juan Coles Blog;

Among the most significant was an attack I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere: "5 p.m. yesterday (Thursday), the Rumayla oil pipeline 50 km west of Basra has been damaged by a bomb."

A Rumayla oil pipeline was damaged by a bomb!? Rumayla to my knowledge hasn't suffered much from pipeline sabotage. Oil has been smuggled from it, yes. Militias and tribes conduct turf wars over the smuggling rights. But just blowing it up? That would be counterproductive for smuggling. The action suggests that one of the competing smuggling mafias or militias has been successfully frozen out of the action. In that case, they lose nothing if they blow the pipeline up, and they harm their rivals.

The Rumayla fields have 500 wellheads and produce most of the 1.8 million barrels a day of petroleum that currently support the Iraqi economy. The northern Kirkuk fields most often cannot export at all, because the pipeline to Ceyhan in Turkey constantly gets blown up by Sunni Arab guerrillas. If the Rumayla pipelines start being routinely targeted by Shiite militiamen in the south, it might spell the end of the Iraqi government of Nuri al-Maliki. It is not as if the government takes in much revenue from taxes, or has any great prospect of doing so. This pipeline bombing has been little noticed, but it is very important if it signals the beginning of a series of such attacks.

The northern oil pipeline infrastructure through Turkey is about been rendered useless, so if the southern oil fields are attacked and the pipelines there are compromised the government will have almost no funds at all.

Suzie-Q (S-Q) said...

... and the pipelines there are compromised the government will have almost no funds at all.

Clif:

What do you think happened to the $9 billion missing in Iraq?

clif said...

well Halliburton did turn a handsome profit, and quite a few contractors are accused of over charging, but some is probably been siphoned off to the proxie war against Iran which the US has been involved in since 2004.

and of course the Iraqi's like Chalibi are notorious for being corrupt also.

Far too many crooks who refused over site, and the CPA was full of neo-con reichwingers who have a thing for corruption and lining their own pockets at the tax payers expense.
